SLAYER

Although slightly disappointed by the lack of bloody, Slayer inscribed forearms in the front row, I was rather impressed by the crowd’s growing anticipation for the headlining act to appear.  A skipping CD playing over the speaker system that was meant to intensify the arrival of the second band, Unearth, prompted the crowd to chant “SLAYER!” well into the Unearth’s presence on stage.
Today it is common to see a 25-year-old band still touring and playing sold out shows.  What is rare is when a band can keep things fresh enough to have 15 and 40 year olds alike cramming the front -row like bulls waiting at the gates to trample whatever moronic bull fighter wants to take them on.  Slayer took the stage and dominated the crowd for the next 90 minutes.  The security that stood in front of the stage had their hands full with 15 and 30-year-old men and women alike being hurled at them from the crowd the entire set.  Slayer manages still, to play decades-old songs without coming across like the stale, “I’m doing this for the money,” feel that so many others portray.  While the members of Slayer might be showing their age, it was obvious after having the ability to play a sold-out show in the middle of Indiana, while still giving the fans a memorable experience, that Slayer is no joke.  I really wish that I would have just seen one forearm with even just a scar that said Slayer, but that’s just me.
